Children ages 8 to 12 could play the game Hackshield for free from August 15 through Sunday, August 28, at Go!Gaming at Pathé Schouwburgplein. Increasingly, children are victims of cybercrime. The municipality of Rotterdam wants to help them learn to better recognize the gaveren of the Internet through the game HackShield.
Cyber Agent
Through the interactive game Hackshield, children learn all about safe Internet use, phishing, fake news and hacking. The game trains the children to become Cyber Agents. Archana Ramkhelawan (Cyber Resilience project leader): 'The idea of Cyber Agents is that children know how to recognize cybercrime and so can protect themselves, family, friends and/or classmates from cybercrime. Children receive one shield per level. The more shields you collect, the better protected you are against cybercrime. The top 3 Rotterdam cyberheroes of August will receive a prize. They have a chance to win a ticket to the big HackShield event on October 14, 2022 at the AFAS theater in Leusden.'
Instructive and fun
One of the game's visitors is Genoa (11): "It's very cozy here! It's my first time in the Go!Gaming hall at Pathé Schouwburgplein. Today I learn all about the dangers of the Internet. Fortunately, I myself am not a victim of cybercriminals. A friend of mine has; she accidentally clicked on the wrong link on her TikTok account the other day. Then her account was deleted. My tip to peers: never click on an unfamiliar link.
Another visitor is Disha (10): 'I think the game HackShield is a good and educational game, it is very fun in this hall. What do I know about cybercriminals? Criminals sometimes send a link to follow a so-called fake package. Don't click on that. I got a call once from an unknown foreign phone number, but luckily I knew not to answer.'
The game can also be played from home: joinhackshield.com
