AFK Esports hosts Smash Ultimate tournament at Go!Gaming

Last March and April, Go!Gaming Rotterdam hosted a series of Super Smash Bros Ultimate tournaments in cooperation with AFK Esports.

AFK Esports, led by Virgil Winklaar, is a tournament organizer that has been organizing Super Smash Bros tournaments throughout the Netherlands for years. This put AFK Esports in contact with Go!Gaming and a plan was made to organize 4 editions of the Go!Battle Smash, a Super Smash Bros Ultimate series. Within this collaboration, Go!Gaming ensured that multiple spots at the Rotterdam location were available for playing Smash. AFK Esports provided the additional switches needed and, thanks to the passionate community that AFK has, the participants for the tournament.

Thus, on the days of the tournament there were 32 active Smash players present in Rotterdam to play a fun and competitive tournament. During the tournament itself everything ran naturally, with the experience of AFK Esports, the extra help of Go!Gaming and the tournament experience of the players a 32 man, double elimination bracket could be completed within 3 hours. With often a repeat winner. Azreal, a player who competed in all 4 tournaments, managed to go home with the win 3 of the 4 tournaments and reach the finals in each one.

The collaboration was one of the first steps in Go!Gaming's activity schedule. Many more activities will be organized in the coming months, so keep an eye on the Go!Gaming website!

Go!Battle Smash was the first offline activity organized by AFK Esports in a long time because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was even picked up by local media outlet: Open Rotterdam (from 5:50).
