Albeda's new esports minor brings marketing, gaming and tech together

On February 1, 2023, Albeda, in collaboration with H20 esports campus, will launch a brand new minor in esports within the Marketing & Communication Specialist program. In this minor, students will learn how to use esports as a marketing tool in the growing market of competitive gaming. Teaching location for students of the minor is the Go!Gaming center at Pathé Schouwburgplein. In this gaming hallway, Suzanne Langbroek of Albeda and Matthijs Vink of H20 ushered in the start of the minor on Wednesday, Nov. 30.

Millions of audiences
From Minecraft to Fortnite and from Rocket League to Sim Racing. The esports market is characterized by a large number of (international) gaming events where esporters compete with each other. Via a live stream, these events are broadcast and watched by an audience of millions, mostly consisting of young people. Companies use the events to reach the new generation, making clever use of the latest technologies.

Live streaming and broadcasting
Students are taught marketing, communications and the modern techniques of
live-streaming and broadcasting. As director of several esports
gaming centers and an esports tech campus in Amsterdam, has a lot of experience training young people for esports: 'The market needs creative and enterprising young people who know how to seize opportunities. As an organization, we already have a partnership with Hogeschool van Amsterdam. They also offer a minor. Not surprisingly, we are now also starting in Rotterdam, where this minor is completely new. We look forward to working with Albeda to prepare young Rotterdam talent for a future in creative tech.'

New professions and sectors
Students are taught two half-days a week (for 20 weeks) at Pathé Schouwburgplein's Go!Gaming location. A location equipped with the best facilities, where they can complete assignments or receive guest lectures from people from the business world. The other days they are taught by teachers of Marketing and Communication at Albeda location Weena. In this way, students get the best of both worlds, says director Suzanne Langbroek: "I think it is important that our students are trained in new professions and sectors. Esports is pre-eminently a sector where all the new developments in technology come together. By following this unique minor, they will soon be widely employable for innovative events and the use of new marketing strategies.' The minor in esports will be available from February 2023 at the Marketing & Communication Specialist course of Albeda College Economics & Entrepreneurship at the Weena location.
